I'm pretty excited about these. I made one for Brayer for his 2nd birthday and he LOVES it. When my brother in law Bill saw it he said right away I had to make some for my shop so of course I took his advice and did! And then I named them after him...
So here they are, the Take Along Billy Car Roll-up and Play Mat. There are currently three different patterns/colors available in my shop. I think these would make great Christmas gifts for any little boy from age 1 to 6 (maybe older? I don't know!) but I'm not already thinking about Christmas gifts, are you? :P
So there you go... a whole new line of things for me to sew! You can see more pictures of them here in my shop!

Creative Stitches and Crafting Alive
My little sister Suzy from Tinged and I went to the Creative Stitches and Crafting Alive fair this morning. It was fantastic! There were so many awesome sewing and fabric and quilting booths. We wandered around, bought some fabric, and took some pictures while we were there!
Suzy near the Pfaff booth, man they had nice machines at this fair!
One of the really pretty embroidered quilts at the show
Suzy was brave and despite a fractured ankle, still wore the dress she made herself a couple of weeks ago.
Another really great quilt and Ara and I
Some of the new fabrics I bought. I can't wait to make some booties out of this owl fabric on the top.
and I got a really fantastic deal on this bundle of Amy Butler fabrics, not sure what I'll make with them yet but I'm sure I'll think of something ;)

Hellllooooo!
So my computer died on me this week and I'm just now getting the new one all set up. So far we haven't managed to access all my files and photos and well, my entire LIFE (it seems) from the old one but we will... right?
I'm busy planning new things for my shop, working on custom orders and trying to figure out a way to make ranger cloaks for the boys for Halloween. I want something similar to the cloaks that Aragorn and the Legolas and the Hobbits all wore in The Lord of The Rings movies. I also hope to make them some stuffed swords and scabbards. I can only imagine how many hours of fun they'll have with those.
Last weekend I managed to get a brand new bag design made up. I love the results so much I really wanted to keep it for myself but of course I put in the shop instead!

I wish I had bigger better pictures to show you but unfortunately they are all on the old computers hard drive!!

Wind and Rain
The weather has been a whole lot of wind and rain lately so I thought I'd curate a treasury based on that weather. I think the treasury is a lot prettier than the actual weather!
New In The Sewing World
Okay so not exactly new in THE sewing world, just new in MY sewing world....
How's your fall going?
Fleece Lined Booties in Hot Pink and Lime Green I made 4 pairs similar to these, all with different buttons and in 2 different sizes.
I made 5 of these Basic Zipper Pouches in Black, White, and Goldenrod
I finally got around to experimenting with piping... sure love the results!
Both pouches are also in my shop
Plaid Baby Booties
The next four pairs were all in my shop for a very short amount time... they all sold very quickly! I absolutely love the lime green ones but had only bought a small amount of the fabric and sure enough when I went back for more it was all gone :(
Besides all that sewing, I've been dealing with sick kids, lots of doctor appointments, and keeping two little boys entertained while it rains... non stop. Fun!How's your fall going?

Spelt Bread, A Recipe/Tutorial
Every now and then I like to change up my standard bread recipe and make something new. I rarely follow a recipe when it comes to bread so when I try something new sometimes it's a bit of a shot in the dark whether or not it will turn out. I've made Spelt Bread a couple times now and I love how it turns out so I thought I'd share my recipe for it.
So to start, sprinkle your 4 tsp. yeast into your warm water.
Whole Grain Spelt Bread
2 cups warm water
4 tsp. active dry yeast
4 tbsp. butter (melted)
1 egg
4 tbsp. honey
2 tsp. salt
4 tbsp. vital wheat gluten
approximately 5-6 cups of whole grain spelt flour
I like to walk away (or clean my kitchen) for 10 mins or so while this dissolves all nicely. Here's what it looks like about 10 minutes later
In a stand mixer, add the egg, butter, honey, and salt and stir it up a bit. Give the yeast mixture a good stir and add to the mixer bowl.
Add the wheat gluten if you have it. It's not necessary but it really does help in the rising process.
I always buy Bobs Red Mill wheat gluten which is easily found at most grocery stores in the baking aisle.
Using the paddle attachment (not the dough hook) on your mixer, add in 3 cups of spelt flour until it is well combined. Switch to the dough hook and add in another cup of flour. Let it mix until dough is well combined. If the dough is still really wet, add another half a cup and mix some more. Keep adding flour until you get a sticky but uniform dough.
Grease up a large bowl (glass if you have it) and roll the dough around inside then let it rest.
Make a towel damp and lay it on top of the bowl. Let the dough rise for at least an hour, or until doubled in bulk.
Once dough has doubled in bulk, punch it down and let it rise again for 15 mins. Repeat this at least 2 more times for a total of 3 times.
After the third time, take dough out and split it in half. At this point you can either make 2 loaves of bread or one loaf of bread and about 12 buns. I usually make a loaf of bread and some buns, just for diversity.
For a loaf of bread, shape the dough into a tube and lay in a well greased loaf pan. Let rise until double then bake at 350 degrees for approximately 25 minutes.
For buns, split dough into 12 equal pieces and shape into rounds. Lay out on a greased baking sheet and let rise till double. Bake at 350 degrees for approximately 13-15 minutes.
And there you go! Now eat them hot with lots of butter :)

Long Weekend
How was your long weekend? I had so many things I wanted to do this weekend and didn't really accomplish any of them but I had a great weekend anyway. Travis and I just finished up watching The Lord of The Rings all over again so we had quite a few nights of being glued to the TV which was really great. I can't quite figure out how those movies just get better every time I see them, but hey I'm not complaining! Now we'll spend the next 2 weeks watching all the appendices as well, which are usually just about as good as the actual movies themselves. Watching the appendices generally lead to reading the books again and with the amount of interruptions involved with trying to read a book I expect I'll have lots of reading material for the next oh 6 months or more.
Besides all that movie watching, we made it to the Calgary Highland Games on Saturday and Friday afternoon we made a trip out to the archery range as well. Lot's of family time which was really nice.
Daddy and Kaed were throwing a tennis ball in the air and shooting at it. Trav hit it a couple times and Kaed actually got close too!
Yesterday I finally managed to get out my sewing machine and I sewed up four new pairs of booties. I love the bright green ones and wish I had bought more of that fleece so hopefully they still have some next time I get back to the fabric store.
all four of these pairs are currently in my shop
